چکیده
A multivariable control scheme is designed to minimize emission of nitrogen oxides NOx and generation of smoke in a Diesel engine equipped with a variable geometry tur bocharger VGT and an external exhaust gas recirculation system EGR Steady state optimization results in operat ing points where NOx emissions and smoke generation are highly coupled and require joint management by VGT and EGR actuators

Improved Controller Design for Turbocharged Diesel Engine
Turbocharged diesel engines are now being used in every automobile by a lot of automobile manufacturing companies. A turbocharged diesel engine (TDE) equipped with variable geometry turbocharger and exchange gas recirculation is explained in detail. A linear turbocharged diesel engine model is presented and its control techniques are explained in detail. Controllers are designed using the linea...
متن کاملNeural networks for real-time nonlinear control of a variable geometry turbocharged diesel engine
New engines are submitted to emission standards that are becoming more and more restrictive. Diesel engines are typically equipped with variable geometry turbo-compressor, exhaust gas recirculation system, high-pressure common rail system and post-treatment devices in order to meet these legislative requirements. Consequently, the control of diesel engines becomes a very difficult task involvin...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of the variation of compression ratio on performance and exhaust emission of a turbo-diesel engine
Changing the compression ratio and presence of turbocharger are two important issues, affecting on performance, and exhaust emissions in internal combustion engines. To study the functional properties and exhaust emissions in regards to compression ratio at different speeds, the numerical solution of the governing equations on the fluid flow inside the combustion chamber and the numerical solut...
متن کاملReview of Some Methods for Improving Transient Response in Automotive Diesel Engines through Various Turbocharging Configurations
Turbocharged diesel engines suffer from worse transient performance than their naturally aspirated counterparts, mostly at low loads and speeds. This leads to overshoot in engine-out exhaust emissions (primarily particulate matter/soot and NOx) after a speed or load increase, as well as poor drivability. The main cause for this problematic behavior is located in the turbocharger in the form of ...
متن کاملA Parametric Analysis of Exhaust Emissions Prediction during Transient Turbocharged Diesel Engine Operation
The modeling of turbocharged diesel engine transient operation appeared in the early 1970s and continues to be in the focal point of research due to the importance of transient response in the everyday operating conditions of engines. Simulations of various levels of complexity have been used so far to study engine performance during transients. On the other hand, the very important issue of ex...
